Body Repairs: Mounting The Body When the new chassis arrived, I placed it on the lift and installed some “roller” wheels and tires. To mount the suspended body on the chassis, I removed the lower 4 X 4s supporting the body, raised the lift under the body, removed the upper 4 X 4s, and lowered the lift. Before doing the required structural bodywork (floors, rockers and firewall), the body had to be securely mounted on the chassis. The body was bolted to the chassis and washers placed beneath the bolts to shim the body off the chassis and to get it level. In addition, the body was X braced at the A and B pillars and horizontally at the door openings.
